Manufacturer's Care Instructions:
- First Wash - Use vinegar. The first time you wash your flannel sheets, wash them with 1/2 cup white vinegar. The use of vinegar will help keep pills (balled-up fibers) from forming on your sheets. It will also set the color in the fabric to help resist fading. Do not add detergent with this first washing. Use the delicate setting for this first wash and use warm water. If using a front loading machine, use the extra water setting if available.
- Do not over stuff your machine as this will cause friction between sheets and will increase pilling. Also, too little linen in the dryer will also increase pilling as the sheets will tumble harder against the dryer cylinder again causing excess friction. If washing just one sheet set, add some other linen such as towels or an older set of home sheets.
- Tumble dry on warm or medium heat on a gentle setting if available - or - remove from the dryer when slightly damp and hang to complete the drying. Remove and fold promptly to avoid wrinkles.
ALWAYS launder with like colors.
MANUFACTURER'S LONG TERM CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FLANNELS:
Use a mild detergent with no bleach or additives.
Avoid Fabric Softener as it leaves behind chemicals that stiffen fabric and reduce flannel's softness over time. The build up from the softener also increases the appearance of pills. In lieu of, consider the use of Wool Dryer Balls or a few clean and new Tennis Balls. The movement of Balls reduces the clumping of fabric fibers.
Wash in warm water. Washing in hot can shrink the fabric fibers and reduce softness. Cold water is also acceptable. Using warm or cold water will also help to minimize fading. Every 5-10 washes, add 1/2 cup of vinegar to prevent odor buildup and maintain softness.
Dry sheets on the Warm Setting. Try not to use the highest Heat Setting. Air Dry your sheets whenever possible or air dry to 90% dryness and then complete in the dryer. When drying at room temperature, the likelihood of pills forming is reduced.
Deal with stains promptly and pretreat stains without excessive scrubbing. Scrubbing stains can set them rather than remove them. Pour water on a stain and then blot it with a clean cloth to remove. Drying stained sheets will set the stain, making it much harder to remove. If necessary, treat the stain again and soak before rewashing.
